I'm probably the worst person in the world at doing horses. I love horses, but I'm much better at doing the human figure. You want to see horses, look at Frederic Remington or Charlie Russell. But I think the way I do my horses, they become a little more than just horses. They become a personality themselves, like the horse in my Spirit of the Medicine Man or the horses in War Party. This guy already had the personality. I didn't try to put anything in. I just wanted to show what was there. He wouldn't be defeated. He had heart. He had will. He had greatness. I think Secretariat was one of the most amazing creatures God ever made, and to see him run, man, it was a thing of beauty.
