Fr. Bill Moore
Contemporary American Painter
Bill Moore was born in Glendale, California. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesotta in 1972. In addition to his pursuit in the arts, he earned a Masters Degree in Theology from the Washington Theological Coalition in 1975.
In 1975, Bill Moore was ordained a Catholic priest. He continues to support his religious order (Congregation of Sacred Hearts) through his art, weekend Mass and mentoring youth-at-risk.
Father Moore’s art is a reflection of his life and daily experiences. Abstract in composition, it is not without purpose or meaning. A palette taken from nature, church vestments, found objects acquired in his travels, the surface structure of old buildings and monuments, the poetic readings of T.S. Elliot, Mary Oliver and George Trakl all create sources of inspiration.
While visually stimulating through color and surface tension, the underlying intent of his art is for us to “slow down, look, explore and consider the essential colors and textures that can fee our souls”.
Father Moore’s art is about creating silence ... Stoping the daily distractions that exist in our lives ... Asking us to take refuge in a field awash with color, recalling memories of failure, success, hope, dreams and the ability to transcend the physical world.
